This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the political landscape of South Asia, a region marked by immense diversity, complex histories, and evolving democratic practices. Covering countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Afghanistan, the course examines the historical foundations, institutional structures, and contemporary political dynamics that shape governance in the region.

Students will engage with key themes including colonial legacies, nation-building, democracy and authoritarianism, electoral politics, identity and ethnicity, religion in politics, and regional conflicts. The course explores the dynamics of politics in South Asia.

This course helps to analyse IR through various theoretical lenses and helps students to develop a critical thinking with respect to internmational relations which are continuously evolving.
